Washington state's Datura formed in 2017. After recording and releasing their first two EPs independently, they released their first LP “Arcano Chemical” on Northern California’s Sell the Heart Records in 2022. Now, with their sophomore LP, “Songs from a Dark House,” also released on Sell the Heart Records and in collaboration with Poland’s Bat-Cave Productions and the UK’s Engineer Records, Datura has hit their stride with their strongest effort yet, “Songs from a Dark House”: a driving collection of catchy hits.
The record seems to celebrate the feelings of isolation and confusion one often experiences living in the modern world and touches on themes ranging from burnout, love and loss, to addiction and war. Consider “Songs from a Dark House” the joyful soundtrack of your next nervous breakdown.
Press coverage:
“As someone who was coming of age when bands like The Cure and Sisters Of Mercy were actually on top 40 radio (that really happened) it’s hard for me to not be somewhat haunted by nostalgia when listening to [Arcano Chemical]. I sort of wish I could go back in time and put “Orphans” or “Dare You” on a mix-tape for the gothy girl in science class that I had a crush on, but was terrified to talk to. And while the throwback to this era of post-punk is authentic and heartfelt, DATURA doesn’t go so far down that path that it’s not also its own thing.”
(Ron Evans, The Comet Magazine)
“[Arcano Chemical] by Datura gives you a peek into how cult status could be waiting in the wings for this goth/rock/indie band.”
(Mark Cartwright, The Punk Site)
“Datura is a trio that delivers a sound that appeals to music heads who love both '80s-era Beggars Banquet Records and the gothier side of punk…”
(No Echo)
Datura moves with ease and quickly captivates with Arcano Chemical through its well-thought-out song structures and pensive lyrical content. Datura has released an album better than anything we’ve heard in quite some time.
(Ghettoblaster Magazine)
