Singing Lungs’ sophomore album, 'Coming Around' will see release on 24th February via Count Your Lucky Stars (US), Sell the Heart (US), Engineer Records (UK), and Waterslide Records (Japan). Featuring guest appearances from Laura Stevenson, Jamie Woolford from The Stereo, Miski Dee Rodriguez from City Mouse, and Rick Johnson, the songs on 'Coming Around' blend influences from 90’s pop punk, alternative, and grunge (think Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr., and Samiam) with the hooks and raw energy of 80’s power pop (think Husker Du and Wreckless Eric).
Punk Rock Theory have premiered ‘How Could I Know,’ the first single to be taken off the album.
“How Could I Know is about the way that music has weaved its way into every aspect of my life,” says vocalist/guitarist Jason Kotarski. “It's also about knowing the why behind your creative output. I create primarily for me; for self-expression, and for recording a snapshot of a time and a place. Sometimes saying or singing a thing outloud helps to propel me forward. That's what it's about, I guess.”
Written and demoed remotely during the early stages of the pandemic, the songs on 'Coming Around' reflect on themes of friendship, connection and creativity during times of isolation. Recorded by Mustard Plug bassist and Jeff Rosenstock collaborator Rick Johnson at Cold War Studios and mastered by Justin Perkins (Bash & Pop, Screeching Weasel, Riverdales, etc) at Mystery Room Mastering while the artwork was designed by former Lookout! Records owner, Christopher Appelgren.
Singing Lungs (featuring the drummer from Cheap Girls) is a punk-rock band that calls back to when acts like Lemonheads and Lagwagon were tearing up the small club circuit. Brash, gruff vocals soar over harsh palm-muting that quickly move to driving drums and distorted guitars. The band has shared stages around the Midwest with Lagwagon, Child Bite, Mustard Plug, Laura Stevenson, Devon Kay and the Solutions, and indie legend J. Robbins. They even landed a spot opening for a Bernie Sanders rally in Michigan ahead of the 2020 election. In October of 2022, the band made their first appearance at The Fest in Gainesville, Florida.
