One drum kit, one guitar, two vocal mics and a whole lot of noisy hook filled tunes. THE BOSS emerged last year from the seaside town of Margate on the South-East coast of England. These three hardcore kids disillusioned with the state of their scene full of copycat bands with copycat haircuts declared war with music from the moment they took the stage on their debut show supporting US emo gods STATISTICS, dedicating the scathing 45 second blast of “Whose Side Are You On?” to the not so amused headliners.

Taking musical cues from THE FALL, Q AND NOT U and late 70′s / early 80′s new wave, rather than the traditional hardcore sound, THE BOSS are carving their own niche up and down the country. They have created a catchy as hell garage style, showing bands like The HIVES and The STROKES how it’s done now in the UK and leaving their listeners with tunes buzzing around their heads but without a suitable pigeonhole to put them in when telling their friends to go see them.

For a new and relatively unheard of band, considering they have ex-members of hardcore faves THE BABIES THREE, THE BOSS have already attracted the attention of the music media. Huw Stevens at Radio One has played them a fair bit on his show and others look set to follow as the debut album comes out on Engineer Records later in the Spring.

THE BOSS are writing songs as a commentary on the breakdown of their local town, families and community. It’s bleak, but you cant help but sing along.
